a problem

A student came to me with a problem. It's as follows:
She was in a store looking at a purse. While there and waiting for the sales clerk, she started a conversation with a women of about 50. the sales clerk got down the bag. The student admired it and as it was expensive, asked the clerk to put it aside for 24 hours while she thought about it.
Later that evening, the sales clerk phoned her and told her the woman had paid for the purse. It was hers. My student felt awkward and doesn't know what to do. Does she keep it or refuse it.
